BSMS, CES recertified as STEM campuses

Bay Springs Middle School and Central Elementary School have both successfully achieved recertification as STEM campuses which provide enhanced learning and teaching strategies in science, technology, engineering and math.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for the efforts of Carroll County and our dedicated teachers who are actively engaged in the process of STEM recertification,” BSMS Principal Scott Long said. “This journey not only enhances each teacher’s professional skill set, but it also equips them with innovative tools and strategies to better reach and support all students. The impact of this work extends far beyond the classroom—it strengthens our entire learning community.”

In addition to the school recertification, five teachers at each school have earned their individual National STEM Teacher Certification. The National Institute for STEM Education is at the cutting edge of STEM pedagogy underpinned by student autonomy, constructivism, explicit/reflective methodology, and 21st century skill building.

“We are incredibly proud that Central Elementary has been recertified in STEM, reflecting our continued commitment to excellence in science, technology, engineering and math education,” CES Principal Marla Turpin said. “This achievement highlights the dedication of our staff, students, and community to innovative learning and problem-solving. STEM education empowers our students with the critical thinking and collaboration skills needed for success in the 21st century.”

A premier organization for national STEM certification, the NISE is a support system for campuses seeking to improve their implementation of STEM practices. These schools have been successful in continuing to implement its STEM Action Plan towards becoming an even stronger STEM campus.
