VRHS symphonic band performs at GMEA

Congratulations to the Villa Rica High School Symphonic Band for its performance at the Georgia Music Educators Association Winter Conference January 26 in Athens, Georgia. The symphonic band, led by Director R. Kevin Brown and Associate Director Ann Wilson, performed seven pieces including the world premiere of Katahj Copley's "When the Dawn is Still Dark." Other works included "Gavorkna Fanfare" by Jack Stamp, "Ballade" by Alfred Reed, and Danzas Cubanas by Robert Sheldon. The GEMA Winter Conference is the premier professional development event for music education professionals in the State of Georgia. The event featured over 130 clinic sessions and over 40 performances from the best musical groups from around the state. The event is attended by more than 4,000 people, including music directors from elementary to college levels, fine arts supervisors, college students, school administrators, students & professional musicians performing with selected performing groups, exhibitors, and family members of performing students.
