State TOTY visits VR bandroom

Carroll County Schools welcomed Georgia Teacher of the Year Christy Todd for a full-day visit January 18.

Todd, who teaches music technology in Fayette County, began her day at the University of West Georgia speaking to over 60 Carroll County Schools high school students with an interest in becoming educators. Todd then traveled to Central Elementary School, sharing a book with kindergarteners and students in an adaptive classroom.

Todd's next stop was meeting Carroll County Schools 2024-25 Teacher of the Year and Villa Rica High School Band Director Kevin Brown. As a fellow fine arts educator, Todd was able to share insights about the TOTY program with Brown as his band rehearsed for their performance at the Georgia Music Educators Association winter conference next week in Athens. Todd also will be presenting at the conference.

After lunch, Todd continued her tour visiting the Carroll County Schools College and Career Academy North Campus. Todd took particular interest in the hand-on learning taking place there, as her music technology program at Rising Starr Middle School incorporates her Community for Creativity initiative, where students learn to create songs, podcasts, videos, audiobooks, and more, which they then release through the school's label, Hall Pass Entertainment.

Todd headed west to Temple High School and Mount Zion Middle School where she conducted classroom visits and met students, teachers and administrators. Todd was accompanied on her visits by state Director of Strategic Alignment Dawn Ashmore.

Thank you to Mrs. Todd for taking the time to visit Carroll County and interact with our local students and educators!
