The Carroll County Schools and Carroll County Association of Educators presented the 2017 Spelling Bee on February 10, 2017, at Roopville Road Baptist Church. Eighteen students from Carroll County elementary and middle schools participated in the event. After a record of 36 rounds, Ethan Basant, a fourth grade student from Providence Elementary, took home first place by correctly spelling the word “capricious”. Amelia Seter, a fourth grade student from Ithica Elementary, finished with the second place title.

By winning first place in the County Spelling Bee, Basant is eligible to compete in the District 4 Spelling Bee. The 2017 Spelling Bee for District 4 will be held on February 25, 2017, at the DeKalb County Board of Education Complex.
