Book Suggestions for Beginning Readers

Adults should spend some time each night reading the following books to their beginning reader. These books specifically play with the sounds of language to increase phonemic awareness in children, helping them to develop an awareness of rhyming patterns in children and prepare them for beginning to read:

The following is a list of books that are appropriate for your child to begin reading.   You can initially read them with your child and have your child point to each word read, then gradually increase the amount the child read and decrease the amount you read until the child is reading the books independently.
