Awards, Honors & Achievements


The Carroll County School System psychologists were recipients of awards from the Georgia Association of School Psychologists in both 2001 and 2002.

Most recently, Mr. Danny Hicks, Assistant Director of Special Education, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the association for his contributions as a school psychologist in both the public and private sector over many years. Danny served as lead psychologist for 12 of the past 16 years and in the last 4 years has served as Assistant Special Education Director. A gifted educator, clinician, and administrator, he has improved services for children in many ways during his tenure at Carroll County and throughout his career.

In the spring of 2001, the system was awarded the highly coveted Innovative Practices Award by the Georgia Association of School Psychologists. The Carroll County School System was honored for their innovative approach to the delivery of school psychological services with seven full-time psychologists, promoting one of the best psychologist-to-student ratios in the state. Four of the psychologists hold doctoral degrees. All of the psychologists are credentialed with either state or national certification or licensed with the Georgia Board of Examiners of Psychologists. An additional school psychologist is employed as Assistant Director of Special Education.

The Carroll County School System is a member of the Association for Pre- and Post-doctoral Psychology Internship Centers (APPIC). APPIC is a credentialing board for doctoral and post-doctoral psychology internship sites. Carroll County is one of only a few school systems in the state of Georgia participate in APPIC. The Carroll County School System serves as a training site for specialist and doctoral level school psychology and clinical psychology interns. Extensive individual and small group supervision as well as didactic experiences is provided.

Prior to her employment with Carroll County Schools, Michelle Feltault was named the School Psychologist of the Year in 2001 from the Orange County Counselors Association as well as the recipient of the Presidential Award in 2002 from the Florida Association of School Psychologists. While at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, Dr. Sandy Wilson received the award for Outstanding Achievement in Educational Psychology.

Many of Carroll County’s School Psychologists have held leadership positions in state professional organizations which serve to promote the fields of psychology, school psychology and education to help meet the needs of children. Mr. Danny Hicks has served on committees to establish evaluative standards for Georgia school psychologists and on the Board of Directors for the Mental Health Association of Atlanta. Dr. Cindy Jenik has served on the Georgia Association of School Psychologists Executive Board. Michelle Feltault has served on the Executive Boards of the Orange County Association of School Psychologists and the Florida Association of School Psychologists as well as the Board of Directors of the FASP Children’s Services Fund. In addition to the school psychologists certified in the state of Georgia and employed by Carroll County Schools, Michelle Feltault and Dr. Sandy Wilson also hold national certification. Dr. Cindy Jenik, Dr. Lisa Sirian and Dr. Karen Stiles are also licensed for private practice in the state of Georgia.
